MELBOURNE, FL- Farm Share, Inc.— a non-profit organization dedicated to recovering and distributing nutritious and healthy food to people in need — will begin emergency response efforts and free food distributions starting in Melbourne, FL. Brevard County families in need will be provided seasonal fresh produce, shelf-stable goods, water, bread and MREs (meals ready to eat) on a first come, first served basis, free of charge at: Greater Allen Chapel AME Church located at 2416 Lipscomb St. on Tuesday, October 11th from 9a until supplies last.

Farm Share is prepared to support as many as 1,000 households in Brevard County and has more than five emergency response truck loads standing by. Farm Share, known primarily for its food distribution program for families, children, elderly and individuals in need, also provides emergency food during times of natural disasters or other events. Most recently, Farm Share provided 79,200 jars (32,780 pounds) of fruit and vegetable baby food to help provide assistance to new mothers and their infants affected by hurricane Hermine in Northern Florida.
Farm Share will continue to announce distribution locations for affected areas in Florida via farmshare.org. Farm Share is encouraging the community to donate by texting “eat” to “41-444” in order to maximize relief efforts to aid those affected by Hurricane Matthew.
