Farm Share Partners with Homestead-Miami Speedway Earning over 300 Lbs. in Donations
August 5th, 2016
On July, 31st around 4,000 people with the need for speed enjoyed the opportunity to drive their car around the same 1.5-mile oval track that hosts the championship races in NASCAR’s three national series at Homestead-Miami Speedway at this years “Car Wash and Ride” event. From car-club racing enthusiasts, to casual South Florida drivers, families and participants of all ages gathered in support of both The Special Olympics Florida-Miami Dade County and “Driving with a Cause,” the charitable arm of Homestead-Miami Speedway benefiting youth education.
Thanks to the generosity of Homestead-Miami Speedway, Farm Share Inc. was able to get in on the fast action collecting food donations, while Gotsneakers, a local sneaker recycling organization collected used sneakers.
The festivities started at 8am with private driving sessions hosted by local car clubs. Highlights also included family activities as well as an assortment of food trucks on site. This year’s event had an amazing turnout, doubling the donations received in last years ‘Car Wash and Ride’. Driving with a Cause raised over $8,000, benefiting the Special Olympics, while Farm Share was able to collect 307 lbs. worth of donated food.
“We are pleased with the turn out of this year’s Car Wash and Ride event. The generosity of our guests is absolutely amazing. This is one of my favorite events, it’s a good opportunity to get fans to experience the track in a different way,” Said Kevin Gregory, Senior Director of Marketing and Communications for Homestead-Miami Speedway.
Proceeds from the event benefited Special Olympics Florida- Miami-Dade and Driving for a Cause. Special Olympics Florida provides year-round sports training, competition, and health services to children and adults with intellectual disabilities, at no cost to the athletes or their caregivers, as a means to achieve physical fitness, self-esteem, socialization skills, and the life skills necessary to be productive, respected, and contributing members of their communities.
“Driving for a Cause,” the charitable arm of Homestead-Miami Speedway, operates under the auspices of the NASCAR Foundation as a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization. Homestead-Miami Speedway will continue each of its charitable activities, including its in-kind donations to local groups, support of Homestead Hospital’s Speediatrics unit, and its program where organizations can work track events in exchange for a donation to their group or cause.
