Farm Share Teams Up with Senator Lizbeth Benacquisto to Feed Fort Myers Residents in Need
North Fort Myers, FL- More than 50,000 pounds of food was handed out to Southwest Florida families in need Saturday morning.
Nearly 2,000 seniors, children, families and veterans in need collected boxes of fresh fruits, vegetables and other goods.
The families in need were given enough food for nearly two weeks.
In an interview with Fort Myers News-Press, John Delgado, Assistant Operations Manager for Farm Share, said the large turnout signifies the need for food in the community.
Last year, Farm Share provided more than $40 million in food to over one million Florida families in poverty. Most of the food is distributed through a community network of church food pantries, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, senior centers, and veterans groups.
