Farm Share Teams Up With Local American Legion to Give Veterans a Helping Hand
Miami, FL- Hundreds of Veterans and their families lined up Friday for a special care package. Farm Share gives a helping hand to Veterans in need with the help of the local American Legion, located in the Miami area.
The Veterans waited to get their share of more than 30,000 pounds of food at the local American Legion.
This event is also in celebration of the grand opening of the new American Legion location on, 6445 NE 7 Avenue, Miami, FL 33138.
Many other organizations were at the event like Switchboard of Miami, which is a 24-hour help line to assist Miami-Dade, Broward and Monroe county residents that need different social services.
The families in need were given enough food for nearly two weeks. Though the line was still long at noon, Farm Share had enough food to satisfy the demand. The giveaway event ended at 1 p.m.
The next event hosted at the American Legion will be the weekend of May 23rd for the Homeless Veterans Stand Down. The stand down is a national event hosted by local American Legions everywhere to bring awareness to homeless veterans and help them get back on there feet.
The stand down will be a three-day event. The area will be filled with tents to take on a military atmosphere and vets will sleep on the property through the weekend.
DCF Wins The Prudential – Davis Productivity Award For Farm Share Partnership
Tallahassee, FL–The Department of Children and Families gets recognized and awarded the Prudential- Davis Productivity Award for their partnership with Farm Share.
The DCF program has been a long-time supported of the Farm Share program. The North Florida DCF branch works closely with our Quincy, Florida facility to help with weekly food distributions.
The employees from DCF, Circuit 2 team–Jeanna Olson, Debra Portera and Sandy Porras-Gutierrez will be recognized and awarded in June for their
dedication of working with the Farm Share program.
